Nutrition data sources and updates
GLP Food Score compares nutrition values tied to a named product and serving. Source identity, serving basis, retrieval date and verification status are data fields—not claims inferred from a build date.
Source hierarchy
- First-party restaurant source: the restaurant’s nutrition page, calculator, downloadable document or structured menu data.
- Government food data: used for general foods when the record maps to the government-described item and serving.
- Traceable secondary source: retained for lineage or historical comparison while a current first-party record is being reconciled.
- Untraceable value: not treated as verified merely because it already exists in the database.
Fields retained for verification
Where available, a record retains the source URL, source type, named product, serving description or quantity, retrieval date, verification date, transformation notes and reconciliation status. A restaurant-level date means the stated menu scope was checked; it is not automatically an item-level verification date.
Serving-basis rules
- Values belong to the serving described by the source, not an assumed household portion.
- Per-100g and per-serving records are not interchanged without an explicit quantity conversion.
- Meal, component and modifier records remain distinct unless the source publishes a reproducible relationship.
- A customization is not recalculated unless its nutrient delta is supplied or reproducible from verified components.
Transformations
Stored values are normalized to consistent units. Net carbohydrates may be derived as total carbohydrates minus fiber, floored at zero. Rounding, unit conversion, modifier arithmetic and duplicate reconciliation must be recorded rather than silently applied. A transformation cannot make a weak source authoritative.
Missing and conflicting values
Unknown is different from measured zero. The current scoring implementation still coerces missing numeric inputs to zero; that limitation is disclosed on the methodology page and is being audited before migration. Conflicting first-party values are resolved by product identity, serving basis and source date—not by choosing the value that produces the preferred score.
Freshness cadence
Priority restaurants are checked against official sources on a recurring six- or twelve-month schedule, with earlier review when a material menu change is identified. Updates are imported into staging, classified, reconciled, tested and released in controlled batches. Build and deployment dates are never presented as nutrition verification dates.
Corrections and disputes
To report a source, serving, nutrition or calculation issue, email hello@glpfoodscore.com with the affected URL, disputed field and supporting source. Accepted changes retain their source and verification history. A correction may change the score, tier, ranking and any guide that includes the item.
Scope and limitations
Restaurant formulations, portions, regional menus and preparation can vary. Source publication does not guarantee availability, allergen suitability or individual tolerance. GLP Food Score does not claim ownership of restaurant nutrition facts; it records provenance so comparisons can be inspected and corrected.
